PHRMG VOLUNTEER PROGRAM

Our volunteers program offers a unique opportunity for students and others to work on the issue of human rights in our group. It is open for anyone who is tolerant, open-minded and committed. We are looking for volunteers who will share this vision and want to give their time and energy in humanitarian causes. This promises to be a very satisfying, office and fieldwork, experience  for all the volunteers who would like to be involved in our programs.

PHRMG activities

The PHRMG has instituted a number of projects to deal with the ongoing human rights violations. The projects include

§      Monitoring unit

This project provides the monitoring and research base for the PHRMG human rights outreach and legal activities. Four field researchers divide responsibilities into four geographic areas in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. Researcher responsibilities include keeping abreast of local developments, pursuing long-term monitoring tasks, and responding to urgent human rights situations, in order to record the eyewitness testimonies of victims, witnesses and other actors.

§      Freedom of expression and democracy center

This project creates a venue where Palestinian journalists, academics, and other groups currently facing direct and indirect forms of censorship under the Palestinian Authority can more effectively contribute to the strengthening of civil society and democracy in Palestine.

§       Suicide Bombing

We aim to conduct research on this topic, exploring the motivations behind undertaking such actions, the legal context in which these crimes are committed, the responsibilities of the Palestinian legal system in upholding human rights, and the role that humanitarian organizations can play in eliminating public support for this merciless practice.

§        The Media and Human Rights

This project works intimately with a core group of 40-50 Palestinian journalists.  United, these journalists can create the critical mass necessary to more effectively confront the constraints to freedom of expression that affect the entire media sector, and, in course, contribute to a more pluralistic and democratic Palestine.  Through a series of lecture/workshops and a follow-up conference that focuses on practical strategies, participants will gain the knowledge, the contacts, the sense of solidarity, the will, and the guidance to make a difference.

If someone is interested to donate to us then they are most welcome. Our revenue is used to educate people in the community and support the young generation in the future.

The Palestinian Human Rights Monitoring Group welcomes applications for unpaid internship positions from qualified and committed individuals. Given the seriousness of the work and unfortunate experiences in the past, priority will be given to those who come as part of an organized course of study or program. Additionally, due to the PHRMG's emphasis on the production of in-depth research reports on important human rights issues, placements normally will be made only for a minimum of six months. In exceptional circumstances shorter placements will be considered.
