Producing energy from trash is known as a “waste-to-energy” option.
Several such options have existed for many years and are in
extensive use throughout Europe. One of the more exciting options
that has been proposed within the last decade is to convert waste
into solid recovered fuels (SRF). SRFs are engineered blends of
nonrecycled combustible waste (general combustible components of
MSW is paper, cardboard, plastics, textiles, rubber, leather, wood)
condensed into fuel pellets or briquettes. Taking advantage of
those fuel pellets or briquettes can be recovered to provide
environmental, economic and resource conservation benefits.
RDF&RPF is a concept about non-natural fuels. The idea of RDF was first
produced in the UK in the late 19th century, and the United States
was the first country in the world to use RDF to generate
electricity. The first RDF incineration demonstration plant was
built in 1972. Japan began to promote RDF technology in the 1990s.
The European Committee for Standardization (CEN) gave RDF a tall
name, SRF (Solid Recovered Fuel), which is sold on a global scale.
The application of refuse derived fuel RDF
1. Drying engineering
RDF is burned in a special boiler and used as a heat source in
drying and thermal deodorization.
2. Coordinated disposal of cement kiln
When using RDF as a fuel, the burning ash of RDF generally needs to
be treated, which undoubtedly requires an increase in operating
costs. In order to develop a low operating cost RDF application
field, Japan uses RDF's combustion ash as a raw material in cement
manufacturing, thereby eliminating the RDF combustion ash treatment
process and reducing operating costs.
3. District heating project
In areas where the infrastructure of the heating project is
relatively complete, RDF heating can be realized with only a
special RDF combustion boiler, and the investment is less. However,
in areas where the basis of heating engineering is relatively
backward, due to the high cost, RDF heating is not economical.
