The EPIC II (Electrostatic Precipitator Integrated Controller)
system is an ALSTOM Power second generation microprocessor based
control system for electrostatic precipitators. With a separate
control unit and display unit, a new degree of design freedom is
The new EPIC II concept consists of two major components of which
only one is needed for basic operation.
- EPIC II main unit, includes all processing power.
- Remote Terminal Unit (RTU), needed only as an operator
interface.One RTU can serve as the operator interface for many
EPICs ProMo, colour graphic software package, host computer
gateways with different software protocol and MTU, Master Terminal
Unit is available as an option.
EPIC II controller
The EPIC II is a microprocessor based unit for regulation and
control of the electric power input to electrostatic precipitators.
The EPIC II maintains the spark rate at a suitable level for large
variations of gas temperature, dust composition, gas flow, etc. It
regulates the rectifier in such a way that the current through the
electrostaticprecipitator is corrected as the conditions for
sparking change. The whole operation can be monitored by the RTU ,
ProMo and host computers.
The EPIC II gives alarm messages to the operator when values are
lower or higher than set, if one or several alarm contacts are
activated etc. All alarm messages are displayed on and may be reset
from RTU, ProMo, etc.Six operating modes can be predefined and then
selected for each individual EPIC II.
The EPIC II has a Master function which means that one EPIC II,
defined as master unit, can control all EPIC IIs in the FläktBus
system and achieve greater total ESP performance.
