jaguar-solingen company
In 1932, Kurt Schmidt founded the steel product company Kurt
Schmidt KG in Solingen, a city known for its knife industry.
In 1967, Kurt Schmidt’s sons, Frank, Hardy, and Kurt Schmidt Jr.,
joined the company. In the late 1960s, the brand name Jaguar was
introduced for hairdressing scissors.
The brand name became the company’s name in 1974. Hardy Schmidt
took over as head of the company.
Distinguished by high quality and holding a large number of patents
and other industrial property rights, Jaguar became one of the
world’s leading manufacturers of hairdressing scissors.
In 1988, Frank and Kurt Schmidt sold their shares in the company to
Zwilling J.A. Henckels, a well-known company based in
Solingen.
Hardy Schmidt kept his shares and continued to lead the company as
its managing director.
Zwilling J.A. Henckels became the sole owner in 2004.
