Summary Report for February 2006

Israeli soldiers at Anata Checkpoint were witnessed harassing a young Palestinian girl on Sunday evening, February 27^th. The soldiers tried to force her to take off her clothes. When two young men, Wa’el Sami al-Sirisi and Hatem Muhammad al-Kurshan, tried to help the girl the soldiers shot them. Neither boy was killed, although al-Kurshan remains in critical condition.

There was a rash of kidnappings in February, mostly occurring in Gaza. Gunmen in Nablus briefly kidnapped a young German schoolteacher on the 2^nd, and two days later a Polish-Palestinian couple was kidnapped in Gaza. On the 9^th, Egyptian diplomat Hussam al-Mousaly was kidnapped near the Egyptian diplomatic mission in Gaza City. He was released unharmed two days later.

Off-duty Palestinian policemen kidnapped a member of Hamas on February 12^th, before delivering him unharmed to a police station a few hours later. Also, Sunday the 26^th Israeli-Arab Kamel al-Izra was kidnapped and killed near Hebron by Fatah gunmen who suspected him of collaboration with Israel.
