Summary Report for May 2006

 

  • The security situation in Gaza remained unstable. Clashes between armed groups and the police have resulted in the deaths and injuries of numerous citizens. The lack of order and security has also meant continuing attacks on public institutions, including schools and hospitals.

 

  • As a large prison and the imposed comprehensive siege on the OPT - violating civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights of Palestinian civilians: 

* IOF has continued to impose a tightened siege on the Gaza.  Although food aid from Egypt into the Gaza Strip through Kerem Shalom commercial crossing have been allowed, southeast of Rafah, the crossing has not yet been officially opened. 

* As a result of the repeated closures of the crossing, the economic conditions in the Gaza Strip have deteriorated.

  • IOF have continued to construct the Wall inside the West Bank.  

 

  • Breaching the international humanitarian law Israeli settlers continue to their series of attacks against Palestinian civilians and property.

 

  • Numerous incursions into Nablus had been carried out by the Israeli Military.

* On April 17th 2006 a suicide bombing attach in Tel-Aviv caused the instant death of 9 people, Islamic-Jihad adopted the bombing, by the month of May 2006 the result of attack raised up to 11 people where a  2 additional injured citizens declared dead at the hospital.
