Farouk Abu-Hassan Released After 9 and half Years

After 9 and half  years of illegal detention by the Palestinian Authority, Farouk Abu-Hassan was released from jail on May 1, 2003.  Mr. Abu-Hassan was arrested without charges in 1994 by the Military Intelligence Service (MIS) of the Palestinian Authority.

Mr. Abu-Hassan had a private meeting with Mousa Arafat, the Head of MIS, and was then released.

While it is a great victory for Mr. Abu-Hassan to be released, PHRMG is greatly distressed that such long illegal detentions exist within the Palestinian Authority.  It is a blatant violation of human rights to arrest a citizen without charges and imprison them without trial.  Palestinian civilians suffer tremendously under the Israeli occupation and further persecution by the hands of their own leaders is reproachable.

In our last message, we requested that letters would be written on behalf of Mr. Abu-Hassan.  There is no further need to write letters.  Thank you for your advocacy on his behalf.
