PHRMG regrets that two more people were
killed by Israeli Army assassination today. Israeli forces
have killed their own citizens as they mistook settler
security guards for terrorists. Witnesses to the scene
report seeing heavy, precise fire directed at the
automobile. The air force typically fires rockets from
helicopters onto their targeted assassins.
The Israeli Army has murdered 123
other people (all Palestinian) since the start of this
intifada. Assassination is an internationally condemned
action, violating several human rights such as the right to
a fair trial and the right of safety for other people with
or nearby the victim, yet the State of Israel continues to
use assassination frequently as a basic part of its military
efforts. This time it has worked against them at the cost
of yet more innocent lives.
PHRMG also is in grave abhorrence at
the virtual ease in which the Israeli Army unleashes lethal
force without even certainty of whom they’re hitting. It is
dire enough that Israeli soldiers have plummeted into a
state of being so light fingered on the deadly trigger, yet
as today’s tragedy proves, the Israeli Army kills without
reasonable information. Let it be stated clearly that PHRMG
is against all acts of violence, military and otherwise, and
PHRMG understands Israel’s need to guard itself from suicide
attacks. But actions such as assassination, in addition to
home demolitions, unbelievably repressive curfews, and the
whole list of collective punishment that is thrust upon all
Palestinians relentlessly, does absolutely nothing for
Israeli security except buy them time before the next
attack. As over two years of intifada illustrate, violence
begets violence—it always has.
PHRMG is shocked and alarmed to report
that 39 Palestinian people have been killed by the Israeli
Army in the last 12 days. If Israel is concerned for its
security, then they need to immediately stop the brutality
and gross use of lethal force upon Palestinians which only
creates more extremists who have reached their breaking
point after tireless suffering. If America is concerned for
the safety in Israel, PHRMG recommends they heed the same
sentiment and condemn fully the act of assassination that
Israel flaunts in the face of the world.
In the words of John F. Kennedy,
“Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make
violent revolution inevitable.” A well proven statement in
the Israeli/Palestinian crisis. |
