APPENDIX
2: LETTER TO THE PALESTINIAN CHIEF OF POLICE
November 14, 2001
General
Ghazi al-Jabaly
Chief of the
Palestinian Police
Gaza
Subject: The killing of Ahmad Shawkat Salah,
from al-Khader, Bethlehem
The
Palestinian Human Rights Monitoring Group is an independent Palestinian
NGO
working to end human rights violations committed against Palestinians in
the West Bank, Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem, regardless of who is
responsible.
I
write to you to inquire about the case of Ahmad Shawkat Salah from the
village of al-Khader near Bethlehem who was killed on 2/8/2001, by those
who suspected him of collaboration with Israel. Mr. Salah was detained
with eight other Palestinians in 1996 on the charge of collaboration, and
despite the fact that Minister of Justice Freih Abu-Meddein announced
before the PLC in 1997 that they were innocent, and the District Court in
Ramallah also decided that Ahmad Salah was innocent, many seemed convinced
that he was, indeed, a collaborator.
Could you please inform us whether the Palestinian police have opened an
investigation into this case, and if so, what were the results? Any
additional information would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
Yours sincerely,
Bassem Eid
Executive Director
