10) Aid and Assistance  

Great efforts from governmental parties and non-governmental organizations, the Red Cross, UNRWA and other parties, were deployed to aid the Palestinians whose homes were demolished in Rafah.  Following are details of the assistance that was given to the misfortunate families:

1- Financial assistance of US $2000 paid by president Arafat to every family.

2- Financial assistance of US $4000 paid by the Iraqi President Saddam Hussein to every family.

3- UNRWA paid a total of US $57,700 to the families, in the form of, food, blankets and carpets, and other materials.

4- The Red Cross gave tents and other supplies to all the families.

5- The Palestinian Red Crescent gave supplies and financial assistance.

6- The Palestinian Ministry of Islamic Affairs (Awqaf) gave a payment of US $10,000 to the families.

7- Other organizations gave, tents, materials and carpets.

8- As for the role of Rafah Municipality, Talal Hamdan from the Public Relations Department said: “The Municipality helped in cleaning the ruins of the houses, and informed the families they didn’t have to pay any fees of water or electricity or building permits to the Municipality.”

9- The Palestinian Ministry of Housing said it has allocated a piece of land in Tal al-Sultan area for the families to build new houses there.
