Re: Our report on the al-Aqsa Uprising
Dear Sirs,
The Palestinian Human Rights
Monitoring Group (PHRMG) is a Palestinian non-governmental
organization working to end human rights violations committed
against Palestinians in the West Bank, the Gaza Strip and East
Jerusalem, regardless of who is responsible.
The clashes that erupted in the
Palestinian territories on Friday 29 September 2000 and go on to
this day are of great concern to our organization, and we have been
monitoring the events very closely. We have now finished a report on
the first forty days of the Uprising, whose aim is to give a
summarized account of the events and to outline the main violations
of human rights that occurred in that context.
You will find attached a copy of the
said report. Kindly review it and give us the Israel Defence Forces’
position on that matter. We would especially like you to comment on
our conclusion that the Israeli security forces have been exerting
excessive force, often targeting the upper part of the body of
demonstrators and using weapons of war.
We would appreciate if you could
answer in English within a week, since we wish to publish your
comments alongside the report.
Thanking you in advance for your
co-operation, we remain.
Yours faithfully,
Bassem Eid
Executive director
PHRMG
